Possibility Thinking

Most mornings, I grab my cup of coffee and scan the headlines of The Wall Street Journal to stay on top of the recent financial news. However, lately there’s been so much doom and gloom that I have to watch out. When the world is washed in fear, it’s easy to get caught up in the “earth curse system” way of thinking.

We can renew our minds to God’s unlimited Kingdom, but the curse of lack, poverty and fear is around us everyday, everywhere we look. For instance, most people continue to rely on debt as their way of life. But it doesn’t have to be that way. I found that most people can be debt free, but they don’t believe it.

For me, for you, for the millions of hard-working mothers and fathers just trying to “get by,” the first step towards getting out of debt is to re-educate ourselves about ALL the financial possibilities that exist. The fact is, we have all been brainwashed to believe that the debt system is the system of choice. No one really believes that they can be free. Instead, everyone focuses on payment amounts, not cash.

For Drenda and I, this re-education began as soon as we came to the agreement that we were finished with living in debt. We decided that we were going to trust God to teach us His system. Not surprisingly, the Lord was standing by ready and willing.

 My mind began to have thoughts I’d never thought before. In the night, when I was lying in my bed, the Holy Spirit would bring ideas and concepts to me that I had never thought possible. I couldn’t shake these ideas. Eventually, I started playing with and meditating on these new concepts. I was a financial consultant, and I was shocked one day, playing with my financial calculator, to find out that a family I was currently working with could be out of debt in less than seven years, including their home mortgage, on their current income. At first, I thought I must have made a mistake. I went through my numbers again and again. I recalculated the same plan over and over, and to my amazement, I found out that my calculations were correct.

The family I had been meeting with was in trouble financially. They were living month to month as most Americans in debt do. But amazingly, these financial concepts the Holy Spirit was showing me could help not just me or this particular family, but ANYONE else pay off their mortgage and their credit cards in just a few years. This particular family was shocked to know that debt-free living was possible.

The point is, despite the fact that the situation may look bad and the economy is in trouble, there are always answers. We just need to be possibility thinkers rather than problem focused. You may need just a little knowledge to turn your life around. We have to remind ourselves that our hope doesn’t lie in credit or in the economy or even in our current job. Things around us can and will change, but one thing will never change. We are part of a limitless Kingdom!
